Frequently Asked Questions
How do I set my computer to use the speaker on Windows?
To set the Sogatel USB speaker as your default speaker, connect it to your USB port and then open your Sound control panel. On Windows 7 this is in Control Panel> Hardware and Sound> Sound> Playback. Select the USB Sound Device in the list. Click on Set Default, then save your changes with Apply/OK.
How do I set my computer to use the speaker on Mac OS X?
To set the Sogatel USB speaker as your default speaker, connect it to your USB port and then open System Preferences and select the Sound pane. Click on the Output tab and then select the USB Sound Device from the list. You can use the slider at the bottom of the Sound pane to adjust or mute the volume. Once the settings changes have been made, you can close System Preferences. The Sogatel USB speaker will now be your default audio device.
I have set the speaker as my default device, but nothing happened?
If the program was open when you set the Sogatel USB speaker to be your default device, please try closing it completely then reopening it so that it checks for the new settings. To close a program completely, you may need to use Quit from the application menu on Mac OS X or right click the program's icon in the System Tray on Windows.
One program isn't playing sound through the speaker, how do I change this?
The program may be using its own separate settings to select the audio device. You can usually find configuration instructions in the manual for each program. Some common locations for audio settings on Windows are:

AIM: Settings> Enhanced IM
Skype: Tools> Options> Audio settings> Speakers
Windows Media Player: Tools> Options> Devices
Windows Messenger: Tools> Audio and video setup
Yahoo Messenger: Messenger> Preferences> Video and voice

Mac users should check the application's menu for the Preferences option to access the audio settings.
What should I do if there is weak or no sound coming from the speaker?
Check the connection and make sure that the USB cable is plugged in properly. Check the system volume and also the volume setting in your media application, and make sure the sound isn't muted. If this does not help, close all media applications and make the Sogatel USB speaker the default audio device (see the above troubleshooting question for information on how to do this).
What should I do if there is noise coming from the speaker?
Check the connection and make sure that the USB cable is plugged in properly. If you are using a USB hub or extension, try connecting the speaker directly to the computer instead, as some extensions can cause poor sound quality. Trying the speaker in a different USB port may also help. If you're hearing audio feedback, you should also check the settings for any microphones you have connected (including built-in laptop microphones), as they could be recording the speaker output and playing it back.
What should I do if I unplug the speaker and it does not work when I plug it in again?
Wait a few moments for your computer to recognise the Sogatel USB speaker. If you are using Windows, you may see a message pop up to tell you when the device is ready for use. If it doesn't appear in your media applications, please try quitting them and reopening them again. If this does not help, close all media applications and make the Sogatel USB speaker the default audio device (see the above troubleshooting question for information on how to do this).
